Default Noise turning steering wheel

2011 XC-90 - The noise comes and goes. but has been more noticeable lately. The best way that I can describe it is a rubber on rubber sound. I can sit in park and move the wheel only an inch each way or driving and making full turns and hear it. Any help would be appreciated ! Thank you.

is the noise coming from the steering wheel hub itself or from the suspension?

I believe from the hub, and I only say that because it can happen when the car is not in motion. Sorry I do not have more information, except I do not feel any difference in the actual steering when the noise is present or not

inside the hub there's a clock spring/steering angle sensor with contacts for the function buttons/horn/airbag etc that could be making noise or it could be the universal joint on the steering shaft itself (it's the part that connects the column to the steering box and has a rubber coupling. You may want to have a shop listen around to see if can be isolated.

Once again Thank you for your reply. I just had the clock spring replaced b/c the angle sensor light was on. I'm thinking it is the rubber coupling b/c that is the type sound I hear (never heard it yesterday) , since you have been so kind with your time, any idea how big of a job replacing that part is ?
