Default ODB II Scanner

I just bought and ODB II scanner at Auto Zone for a little over $70. I had the guy show me how to use it. It pulled the following code:

P0133
O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Then we hit erase and the Check Engine light is out. Going home to check the code on my V70 tonight.

Question: Should I buy a new O2 Sensor or just clean the one in the car? It is the 2nd time I have pulled the same code. How hard is it to replace the Sensor and how much do they cost? They had one at Auto Zone for $150 and another for $90 both by Bosch.

Another question: Is this also the tool I need to reset the Service light? If I have to spend a little more to get one that does that I will.

It did not reset the Service Light on the V70.

The codes I got on the V70 are:

P0140 - Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction
P0172 - System Too Rich

I think the scanner that costs $50 more will reset the Service Light. I might just return it and get that one. I want those light out and I guess there is no easy way to turn it out on the 97 and 98 models.

No there is no easy way on those years.
The o2 sensor isn't that bad to do.
The codes from the V70 might be the air pump bad or the valve bad.
See if you can activate componants with the scanner if you can try to activate the pump and see fi you can hear it.

Or after the car sits over night see if you can hear a fan noise on first start up by the battery or under the car.

Tech, glad to see you back on the board. I was starting to look elsewhere for help. I got the "running too rich" again on the V70 but not the "Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction". I kept the cheaper ODBII scanner because the next step up did not reset the Service Light either. No way it will activate components. I will listen for the fan and see what I hear.

It might not be bad to replace the O2 Sensor, but they sure are pretty expensive. The place that services my car wants $600 and they always do both of them. I can buy just the front for just under $200. Any suggestion on getting one cheaper?

Thanks

Jim, IPD sells the OBDII for $152.15 and FCP Groton sells it for $149.00. IPD sells the reset tool for 96 thru 98 850 and 70 series for $178.00.

I got the ODBII scanner for $70 at Auto Zone. I was asking about the O2 sensor.

Also check good for vaccum leaks.Check the vaccum line behind the power steering pump on the end of the intake.

I always replace both as well because when one goes bad the other isn't far behind.

I tried to save money on O2 sensors in my 850. The aftermarket ones hardly ever work. I finally just had to buy the OE one. It is a little more expensive but it worked! Also, Replace both of them. Save you time and agravation. They are just part of a tune up item now.
