oil leak apparently only under load
Just bought 1999 S80, 2.8, 80k miles, day after i got it, big puddle of oil in driveway but previous owner never had a leak and i believe him. I ran it a little hard, drove 60 miles home on interstate at 80+ mph, did i blow an "O" ring or seal in turbo, oil sump? Oil is all over lower part of engine in rear, right under where passengers feet are. Ran it on lift at idle but didn't detect anything. Going to try again at higher RPM, where should I look for leak? HELP!
I am not privy to the S80 so I can only guess.
I would first thoroughly clean the residual oil and try to locate the exact source of leak. If it is coming from under the back of the engine + under load, I would suspect the turbocharger. On the 850, the turbocharger is known to have minor leak right under the turbocharger, which is considered normal. However, the oil return line's O-ring is known to cause more-than-minor leak. That's what I would check; the turbo oil return line.
I hope someone knowledgeable to the S80 replies soon.
