Default Is it possible to disconnect CEL?

I am in the used Volvo market and hoping to cut a deal soon. My top target is about 100 miles from my home. So getting a mechanic to fully check it out may be impossible. I wonder if it is possible for a dishonest seller to disconnect the check engine light to hide any problems. If it is, how do I check? Thanks!

It is possible, but just turn the key on without starting it and look for the light to come on. They should all come on

Thanks! It actually dawned on me this morning that the light should be on when turning the power on with the key. Thanks anyway!

Also, do you have a fault code reader that you could take with you? Or borrow one.
Any ext'g codes stored should show up for you.
