Default Fuel Filter - How to disconnect??

I feel stupid for asking this, especially working for a fuel systems company... Anyway.. I'm trying to change my fuel filter and I have never seen this type of quick disconnect and am not sure how to get the lines off of the filter.

the plastic cover on the connectors seem to slide back a very little bit and rotate somewhat freely, but i can't get the line to come off the filter... What's the correct way of doing this before i grab some cutters and hose clamps

Thanks

They pull off. I tore mine up once and had to buy a new line from the tank, so be careful. Maybe take some needle nose pliers and wedge them between the fiter and the line and work it lose. It's a pain if you ask me.

Greetings from Chicagoland.

Don't feel stupid, we all have that moment once a while in our professions.

Here's an excellent instructions from Bay-13 at Volvospeed.com:

http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/fuelfilter.php

I used above instructions, as well as Haynes'. I too, had difficulty taking them off, but here's what I did.

1. Relieve the system pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse (relay?) in the engine compartment while the engine is idling. The engine will eventually die. Then, with the fuse (relay) taken out, crank the engine for about 10 seconds. This relieves the system pressure and seems to work on any car.

2. Take the filter clamp off.

3. Using an open-end wrench (17mm?), a pair of pliers or whatever you can use as a leverage, try to push (pull?) back on the quick disconnect. Non-metallic tool would be ideal, but I used a 17mm open-end wrench.

4. Here's my trick. While you pull back on the quick disconnect, TWIST (ROTATE) THE QUICK DISCONNECT + HOSE AND THE FILTER CONNECTION. As you do this, the connection slowly begins to separate, and fuel starts dripping.

5. Install the new filter in. This step is a lot easier than removing the filter.

Good luck,

JPN
