Default Rack Question...

HI,

I have a 1999 V 70 with no racks on it, I am looking to use one off a 1998 S 70. It is a stock Volvo rack, will it fit?

The actual rack consists of two crossbars, which i am planning to attach a Yakima Rocketbox, just want to know if it will fit my model and be grippy enough where it attaches to the gutters or do the stock Volvo rack dimensions differ for every model?

Thanks,

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I myself am not privy to V70, and couldn't help you on the rack.

Try posting the same question in the V70 forum, I believe someone there should be able to give you an accurate reply.

Good luck,

JPN

It depends how they mount. There is a good chance that the tie downs on the roof are different between the sedan and the wagon. But if the mounts are suction, there is a good chance that they will work. If you go take a look at thule or yakima's sites there should be some more helpfull info.

They should work. You are just getting the sedan crossbars, not what is called the Euro Rails which are on the wagon and run from front to back on the roof. The sedan crossbars run from side to side and clamp into the frame around the window. I have never used them, but I would say I'm 90% certain they should work fine on the wagon. I use Thule kayak carriers on my Volvo crossbars, but I do have the Euro Rails I was referring to.

Look for the Euro Rails for the V70 and then you can use the Yakima crossbars or the Volvo crossbars. The Euro Rails are very easy to put on. You repace the strip that runs from the windshield all the way to back of the vehicle. Comes off as one piece and you place it with the strips in pieces and the rack.
