Default Replace 850 timing belt & water pump, on forum?

I've searched the forum and don't see a DIY for TB & WP replacement. Any suggestions where to look? I'd like to know if I (with internediate mechanical skills) can do this repair.

Also, I've test driven but not yet bought an externally clean 93 850 with 164K miles. I think I smell blowby fumes in the cabin. Can this be eliminated by changing PCV system or just reduced?

Thanks,
JimBee

93's a bit old now.
Later ones had many improvements.
Ranging from dual headlights to a wider timing belt that doesn't need changing as often.

I was going to paste URL link to volvospeed, but their server seems to be down at the moment.

Everything in the kit is OEM parts.

T-belt Service interval:
1993: Every 50,000 miles/4 years
Later: Every 70,000 miles/5 years

Highlightthe timing marks with correction fluid. Haynes Manual also provides additional info. WP is straightforward, but generally 850’s WP seems to last a very long time. I had to replace mine as it had a sign of leakage. I replaced it with Hepu (German) pump but genuine Volvo is probably more durable. When you remove the tensioner pulley, make sure to use the exact size Torx or it will strip. If you replace the hydraulic tensioner cylinder, remove the lock pin AFTER you have installed everything. Hand-rotate the crankshaft at least 3-5 times to make sure nothing is hitting.

The fume would probably subside with PCV servicing.

I would stay away from 1993 models. Would probably go for 1995 or 1997.

Good luck & let us know if we can further assist you. Post threads in the 850 forum, as we have quite a few experts there.
