Don’t know about other manufacturers, but Volvo has engineered a mess of rivets throughout the body, made so that removal is achieved only by destruction.
Rather than perpetuate that stupidity, I came up with a field expedient means of replacing rivets with ordinary bolts.
Point of doing this is to secure the parts with REMOVABLE bolts, like the rest of Western Civilisation uses.
Problem was, how to secure the nut end of the bolt combination to allow tightening/removal by one end only—the secured end being out of reach behind a panel.
Solution was to heat weld spare plastic bits round the nut end.
