Default Reverse problems

I have a 1986 volvo 740 wagon. We bought the car as having no reverse. If you put the car in reverse and let the clutch out it will slowly move backwards on level ground. There is no grinding sounds but it just doesn't seem to engage. I removed the tranny and tore into it but everything looks good and intact. When I reinstalled it it just does the same thing. Any ideas or sugestions would be appreciated before I have to buy another tranny.

The shaft in the transmision wasn't broke was it?

I don't know to much about inside the Transmission but if it won't move then it has to be something in the Trans.

If it moves foward good then it isn't the Clutch.

All forward gears function just fine. And as far as I could tell all shafts were in good condition, it actually looked like the trans had been rebuilt resently.

You might want to check into another rebuild.
