I'm looking for a resource on the various differences between the T5 and the R. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm in the market and would like to spend under 20 grand. So I'm finding '06 to '09 models are in my price range. Any advice for a new Volvo buyer?

Not your best source, but since no one else has responded.... I shopped these back in 03 or 04 I think. Seat leather much nicer in R. All R's awd. Drivetrain performance higher but not a lot. You can google all of that. And of course the R's had the spoilers and asthetics. I remember the seat leather quality difference being really noticeable though. Hope that helps.

 

T5 had a horsepower rating of 247 and the R was 300, if I am remembering correctly.

 

That sounds right. The big drivetrain dif I thought was the awd on R. You noticed that big time. No wheel hop like the T5 base. I'd driven and considering jag xjr at same time, which had 400hp. So my performance expectations were a little skewed to say the least. $$ wise the volvo r was more bang for the buck, but went with jag anyway.

 

The T5 came with a 6 speed manual as well after 05 or 06, but I can't remember if it had the 4C chassis too. R is also getting the brembo's and haldex awd system, but they only built it till 07 MY. I know the 04-05 S60R's had reliability issues with the 6 speed synchros, and the 5 speed auto's limited torque output though the 06-07's had a 6 speed with no limiter.
