Default Starting Issues, HELP

Hello all. I own a '98 V70R and am having some issues. My car won't light up AT ALL. Then, when I unplug the MAF, I can get it to start and rev with the pedal (runs like poo obviously while MAF is unplugged), smokes a bit more than usual, and will die again once gas is let off. This has been pretty consistent as far as being able to start it ONLY with the MAF unplugged. Have heard things about vacuum lines getting loose and blown off n whatnot, but I'm almost positive that wouldn't keep it from starting at all in the first place, however I suppose I could be wrong. I think I have ruled out fuel issues, as I tried a new relay and returned it after that made no difference, and I'm almost positive the car wouldn't light up at all and run for a couple secs if the pump, which was replaced AT Volvo in the last year, was at fault. Drove it to work and it ran flawlessly and then went to start it to run it out front to warm up/heat seats, etc and the previously stated issues arose. I will say that I am a relatively new Volvo owner so I don't have a lot of knowledge yet on these cars. I know they have cult followings so I KNOW someone else is/has had this same problem and would make my day if someone could help me out!
-Thanks a Ton, Dicky Jim.
