Turbo, That is an old marketing ploy. They have no idea what car you have. Whatever you take in there, That's just the one they are looking for. I'm sorry to see Volvo sink to this level but since Ford took over it's like selling Taurus's.

sounds like a sucker ad to me....personally anything with a Volvo name plate on it after 1998 is not worth trading in or "up" for...I personally HATE FORD and will never buy any "Volvo" after 1998...Nuff Said.... BNE

I agree. See what u can out of them.

As for what year is better for an R, I thought I read that they updated the AWD system for '06. In '05 the body side molding is the color of the car. Dont know what else changed year to year.

Actually...there is no fine print. Here ill type the letter in its entirety.

President's Day Buy-Back Event

Please Review the Following Information Carefully:
Herb Gordon Volvo has been designated as a site to conduct a special market test pricing and financing event. Your status as a Volvo customer qualifies you for this pribate sale.

We are in desperate need to acquire pre-owned Volvos by February 21, 2006 in order to fulfill special vehicle requests. You have been identified as an owner of one of these vehicles and our New Car Managers have been authorized to buy back your current vehicle at or above market prices.

We would like to exchange your current Volvo for any new Volvo. With factory incentives and high trade-in values, we feel confident taht you can make the exchange with little or no money down and a monthly payment that fits your budget.

You must bring this letter for admittance to this event and present it to the Sales Manager, Frank Gomez at Herb Gordon Volvo.

Please stop by or call us at 888.217.8591 to schedule a convenient appointment and allow us the oppurtunity to make you an offer. A visual inspection of your vehicle is required to offer you the highest possible price.

Due to high demand for these vehicles, this event will not be advertised to the general public. This will be your only notification.

ok so that was the whole letter. the way they make it sound, i could go in there and bargain with them about maybe a 15000 dollar s60R and they might be cool with that. and like you jimwk i think it would def be worth it to just go and see what happens.

All you are going to be out is your time if they can't come up with a deal that meets your requirements. Having had to sell cars for the longest 6 weeks of my life, I will offer some pointers. First and foremost, never mention a $ figure first. It is always said that he who speaks first will lose. Example: You are willing to spend up to $15K in difference. They are willing to accept $13K. If you speak first you just cost yourself $2K. Set a number in mind (always an on the road price, which includes, tax title etc.) and for no reason go over this price. This keeps you from making a bad deal. I once bought a Chevy Tahoe and the first deal they offered was my Chevy Blazer and $19,700+ tax + license. . . . We finally ended up with a deal that was my Blazer and $13,000 on the road. Don't let the new car smell overwhelm you.

Well they are going to try and get you to buy a brand new Volvo. If I remember correctly you are fairly young and I don't think you should be putting yourself into debt for a NEW car. Be careful if you go and talk to them, they can be very manipulating. Make it clear right from the start that you might want to get a newer car, but not interested in Brand New. Sounds like you put quite a bit into the car you have and that you like it quite a bit so don't get caught up in the hype of buying something new. That's easier said than done. Also if there is a car you really like, don't let them know that. Come across with an attitude that you can take it or leave it and you are really happy with the car you have now, but would consider something a little newer if the price is right. Another thing to do is to find out what you can buy the car for w/o a trade-in. The trade-in is where they get you every time. You want to know exactly what you could buy that car for and exactly what they are giving you for your car.

Let's say you are looking at a car with a price tag of $22,000 and they say they will give it to you for $10,000 and you car. Wow, they are giving you $12,000 for your car. No way. Try saying you have a relative that really likes your car and you might just sell it to him, so how much can I buy that car with no trade in. They will definitely come down from the $22,000. If you can't get them to come down offer them $18,000 and see what happens. Once you get the deal for the car with no trade in, tell them you need to go call whoever wants your car. Make sure you do this in private, and you just need some time to think. This is where being married comes in handy. Can't do it w/o the wife's approval. Anybody understands that, but it's nothing buy BS in my household, because I'm the man (lol). Anyway you get the idea.

Now you come back and say Uncle Joe can't get the money right now and you would really like to have the new car so can we still work out a trade? Now if they still say $10,000 and yours you know what you got for yours. I frequently buy cars that people are trying to trade in. I get real good deals that way, and I give them more than the dealer is offering. I'm probably one of the few people who get off on haggling with car dealers.

The most important thing to remember is TO BE READY TO WALK AWAY. When you start walking is when you will get the best deal. If not, just keep walking. Have fun man.
