Hey all,

I have a 2004 S40 T5 2WD Automatic Transmission. A couple questions here. 1st- how do I find what transmission is in my car; AW55 or what? 2nd- what type of trans fluid can I use that I could find at a local parts store? I keep seeing JWS3309 as the Volvo part number, is this correct?

My Volvo just passed 105,000 miles, I do not know when it was changed last, I pulled the dipstick and it is not pink color but doesn't smell burnt either. I just do not want to screw it up.

Also, any tips on doing a drain and fill myself?

The 5 speed AW55 transmissions are meant to have a JWS3309 compliant fluid.

 

According to the link, my gearbox code is a "7". That is not on the list. I do understand that there was only two trans made, AW50 and AW55, how are they different?

 

The AW50-42LE is a 4 speed auto transmission.
These use DEX III not 3309.
the AW55 series are 5 speed.
