Default Transmission Fun Ness....

So my transmission was rebuilt-

- new assembly kit
- new filter
- new transmission fluid
- 1 exchange rebuilt torque converter
- 1 new - electronic pressure control
- 1 new boost valve with sleeve
- 2 new shift solenoids
- 1 new coast band assembly

Problems:

-Turbo is feeling "grindy" , not smooth.
- car idles at 600 rpms or 1000rpms,never inbetween these points.
- the car shakes at idles heavily (i.e. red lights), as a result the seats in the front you can see them shake back and forth. Today my drink in the drink holder was shaking too.
- initial slow acceleration is grindy also (0-10mph)
- there is a hissing sound (like air commin out of a tire), that happens only when accelerating or mainting a speed, more acceleration louder hiss.

Aamco guy told me that for the first 2 weeks the transmission is going to relearn how I drive? and that it needs to be broken in. They tried to look for what i was commenting on but none of them could understand.

-there are no codes in the system.

-shifts great

Okay last problem, I went to India for a month, and rode in the car a lot. After seeing for a month straight the side view mirros are ALWAYS folded in I got mentally set to that. I come back after picking up my car, and as I do a lane change, this oversized truck covers both lanes, didnt look like it the way he was, and i hit my passenger side view mirror. The outer cap broke, and i cant find a replacement anywhere on the net. anyone know where i can get one? The broken one broke in two pieces, unless someone can tell me a good glue for it!

Thanks a lot guys.

Does not sound right at all.
With hissing and incorrect idle speed I'd be looking for loose or disconnected air pipes/hoses/lines.

As for your mirror.
Wreckers or volvo.

The tranny does need to relearn. Also look where the steering shaft goes through the floor. There is a metal collar that usually comes out and will make the hissing noise. Lastly have the engine mounts checked.

I would be horrified if a fresh gbox or engine ran rough.
What youve listed for the gbox doesn't sound like much really, more control parts than actuall wear parts.
So I wouldn't be too worried about any 'break in'

its been 4 weeks, and the rough idling wont go away , ontop of that the car just wont idle correctly - 600 rpms or 1000 rpms lol, isnt it suppose to idle at or btwn 750 - 800 rpms?

Even with the car in neutral the car shakes at idles, which tells me this is engine related?

Your scanner cannot read all engine codes. The tranny should be learned by now. Sorry but what year was it again?

Try this it won't tell you codes but it will tell you if there is codes in the ECM. Press ans hold the read button on the end of the turn signal. While holding the read button press and release the rear foglight switch fast. Then in the display you will see if checking for codes in the systems. Then press the read button to see what systems have codes.

well I did that today:

"DTCS in Vehicle"

ABS DTC SET
SRS Ready
TCM Checking
ECM DTC set
AUM Ready
CEM DTC Set
DIM DTC Set
DDM Checking
CCM Checking
PDM DTC Set
PSM Checking
REM Checking
SWN DTC Set
UEM Checking

For the ones that say checking, I waited alittle bit but they didnt change, tried doing this a second time and it still didnt change.

The ones that say checking will stay like that for a while sometimes. But yes you have engine codes that your scanner won't read you need to find someone that can read and clear them.

okay, after a trip to Volvo they told me everything was related to the transmission work done by Aamco:

- For the idle issue they told me that the transmission that was installed was "off balance."
- the suspension noise that I was hearing was because the "sub frame which was removed during the work" they say its loose now.
- The air noise I heard was/caused from: steering column boot at firewall cannnot be re - installed because part is missing (Bearing) part may be inside boot when steering rack was dis - connected.

So Its going back to Aamco Monday O.o..

lol i got it back from Aamco today,

-the guy said that the vibration issue was not transmission related, but it is there. The Gold master certified tech there said he could not find where its comming from.
-they also said that they didnt disconnect the steering rack, they just dropped the transmission, so therefore they arent responsible for that either.
-the only thing they could find was the tire was rubbing against the fire wall lol....

tommorow its going back to Volvo!...

Could always *suggest* to the orig repairer
"I'll get an independant repairer to have a look and if it's due to anything you've done I'll get them to send the bill straight to you shall I*

And how the f... can a tyre rub against the firewall ??????????
The firewall is in the engine bay, the tyres aren't.
Well not on my 850 anyway..........

well, at volvo they took care of the steering column noise. They even told me to make a appointment at Aamco again, then Volvo will send someone down to show them on the lift what the transmission is doing - apparently its shaking, and they believe its internally related.

I should make a correction, the tire was rubbing on the inside wall that wheel well lol. I just hope this gets squared away before i go back to college :/.

Inside well, that sounds better.

Sounds like that volvo dealer is really trying to look after you.
Be very worthwhile getting and keeping a few of their bussiness cards...

So to top this all off, Im getting huge spots of oil, like I parked it over night in my usual area and there were 5 spots of oils about the size of softballs, some were the size of baseballs under my car. Im gonna guess its gonna be the return lines? it seems to be right below the transmission area.
