Transmission Fun Ness....
well its at the shop now (aamco), and they said they cant find the leak - I must be going crazy lol, there are so many spots on my drive way, and some on the street where I park.
The shaking they cannot pin point it... I was gonna have the Volvo people go down to check it out to show them, but i decided not to - poor guy was gonna have to go downon his lunch break just to go show them. They see the transmission shaking, but dont think its the transmission.... I dont get this, i feel like they are afraid they messed up somewhere.
Well, I guess its gonna go back next friday, and they are calling in a special mechanic that has more than 22 years of experience in transmissions, and he is going to look at it.

Tech or anyone, the transmission is definately shaking, can that cause the engine to shake? Or would it be more likely for the engine to cause the transmission to shake?
maybe there is osmething not connected between these two things right? If i put it in neutral, then it shakes also at idles.
I think I need to bring it to a third party to have it inspected.
well the leak is comming from my brake fluid line right under the bracket.
they still cant find the vibration, they tried to remove the torque converter, but when they had it all open'd up they decidedto put it back together, it was to hard to get to today I think.
The mechanic told me that feels that its "skipping", and that the car's computer is compensating for this and thats why there is no error message. (his first thought the engine was misfiring).

Thanks for the update.
bull.
if the engine was missing, i think you'd at the very least be getting error codes for fuel mixure at the o2 sensor.
I'd cut my losses and go somewhere else.
And 'tryd to remove the convertor' ?
If they managed to get to the convertor it's only a few more bolts and it's off.
To verify for yourself about the 'miss', disconnect each spark plug wire in turn, if you pull one particular lead and the engine note doesn't change, that'll be the faulty cylinder.
Simple really, if one cylinder isn't firing for any reason, loosing spark on that cylinder will make no difference to the way it runs.....

well, Monday I will here back from them, they want to use a certain program which gives them acess to delearship information, but it was down today. Worst comes to worse, they said they will replace the converter. I wasnt 100% sure what they did to the converter, but its attached to something else (maybe a flywheel?) something that they didnt want to get into, without doing , more research about it.
I thought about taking it somewhere else, but I feel confident that they will solve this issue. they are definately very friendly people, he made it right today he gave me a special key chain card that gives me 20% off services there. he also gave me a 50,000 miles warranty on the transmission.
Thanks for the support

The torque convertor is bolted to the 'flex plate' (automatic version of a flywheel).
The gearbox has it's input shaft going through the middle of the torque convertor.
Think of the t/conv as a clutch in a manual.
Hence why some call it a wet clutch.
If the convertor isn't lined up properly when it's bolted to the flex plate it will vibrate.
Depends on how badly its out as to how badly the car will shake. from mild to destroying the gbox/engine/mounts/etc.
So it could be a misaligned torque conv, loose bolts, faulty conv, missing/loose engine mounts, etc.
I wonder, is the top engine torque mount installed ? (goes from firewall to engine, above the engine/gbox join)
EDIT, Pic.
From left to right
Orange bit is the output to the gearbox, blue bit is the torque convertor, bolted to the flex plate, (Not shown) flex bolts to the crank shaft of the engine.

well got my s80 back today, no vibrations, they said the torque converter was sticking to the plate.
-they forgot to put the boot back in the steering rack ......
-its driving like a non-turbo, when i try to use the turbo takes like8-10 seconds to get out of first gear. Shifts at 5500rpms, normally did it at 6000rpms.
-The car, when I give it some gas and let off, it will surge stop surge stop surge stop, 10-15 times. It will surge stop in drive, reverse, neutral and a little bit in park. The lights will dim and then go to full power. Light will flicker dima little bit when left alone in park. I showed the manager at aamco this and he said its now engine related.
-the muffler is shaking more than usual tooand its sounding different.

man, i took it for a short spin, it stalled on a very slow continuous acceleration, the rpms are jumping at constant speeds, and I have no turbo boost... when it takes very long to reach 80 mph, and anything after that it is VERY SLOW..............
And I am leaking oil towards the rear part of the car, its a good quick leak, I parked it for 2 hrs and when I came back after the short spin there was about a 12 inch by 3 inch size "light" puddle of oil..... now that i think about it its probably gas?
(have another message on the end of page 3)

What a crock of.....
The torque convertor is BOLTED to the flex plate.
There are no other plates in the whole assembly.
My god. Report them and go else where before they put nuts and bolts down the intake and tell you it's the tyres.
If you must persist in going there, It's simply a matter of "It didn't do xyz before I brought the car here, therefore you broke and will fix it, and you will provide another similar car until it is fixed to my satisfaction"
I am so glad I can, and do, do 90% of my own repairs/maintenence.

heh, yeh, turns out that leak was transmission fluid. This morning showed a really good size puddle of pink fluid. Turns out the ring in the dipstick, is separated or cracked, they are going to put in a new rubber one. Surprisingly the fluid will only leak when the car is off and not running.
Its going to Volvo on Friday, hopefully they can put a end to this chapter lol. The way it surges and stops is crazy, sometimes stalls after wards, lights dim and flicker, and more amazingly I cant believe I dont have turbos..... with all this going on no codes, cept DTCS...which ofcourse I cant read lol...

well I hooked my scanner up, and I got the code p1238 Fuel Air Metering?. (Also my Cruise control function does not work anymore, moonroof, windows, locks etc all work). Could this explain why the Turbo's working? or why its stalling and shaking?also my steering wheel is makin a metally -whinysound stiff occasionallyfeeling...
Yes that could be causing the problem. Mass Flow might be bad.
Have Volvo check the steering noise. Also make sure the telescopic on the steering wheel works fine. I am thinking maybe they bent the steering shaft.

just out of curiousity, when they are dropping down the transmission, do they have to disconnect the steering rack?
He keeps denying that they dont do this and I dont believe because Volvo says otherwise it would be in the way?

The rack stays hanging most of the time. Thats how I do it but if they don't disconnect the shaft just before it goes through the firewall there is a VERY good chance they will bent it when putting the subframe back in.
well im surprised, the delearship really stepped intoday: 1 hourinto the diagnostics the advisor tells me that it will be a little longer for the tech to report to him, and he then said that they are making a run to Dunkin doughnuts and everyone in the room gave there order.
Apparently, the loss of turbos/power, the fluctuation in rpms turned out ot be that they needed to clean the throttle system. They did that under warranty.
Apparently, my power steering fluid was leaking and they replaced the tank under warranty.
They even went as far as replacing my headlight that was out (17$) for that bulb!, that surprised me that they covered that.
The noise from the steering was because the steering shaft bearing was missing.
I think I am still leaking transmission fluid but will find out tommmorow
.
Best of all is, the power in the car is back!, I felt like it was pickin up faster than before. My last throttle body cleaning was done just last january, I am surprised that it needed it again so soon.
