Used car dealership fail
A friend of mine recently bought a 2002 Volvo S80. It's a pretty clean car that sounds great mechanically as far as drivetrain, but it has a few little issues that need to be solved to get it back in pristine shape. Her father is a past Volvo dealership tech and went to look at the car with her before she bought it, so he knew the little stuff wasn't that important when buying the car. They got a great deal on it, and brought it home as - is.
One of the issues was that the front windows weren't working. The famous blue slider clips on the regulators were shot on both windows, so she ordered 2 sets of them online, and I changed them this past week. The driver's door was a trouble free fix, but the passenger door held a surprise inside. The window was locked in place in the up position by two bolts that had been placed on the inside of the door through the inner door skin (circled in red in the pic), and were holding the window in place. The regulator had been bent at some point, and all of the blue plastic clip remnants were in the bottom of the door.
Someone had been in this door to do a quick and cheap fix, but I got it straightened out and working well. Just as a goof because I now had no faith in the dealership mechanics, I ran a compression test on the engine and luckily THAT turned out good (170psi+ in all cylinders).
The car seems to be running well and operating smoothly, but I have a feeling I am going to be seeing this car in my driveway again in the future.
