V60 Automatic handbrake. Dangerous?
Just acquired a 2013 Manual V60 but I think the handbrake should be able to come on automatically when you at least switch off your engine, otherwise, you stop, pull the key out, and away it goes down the hill.
surely there should be a setting that puts the brake on automatically when parked up.
Any ideas???
Just to have a little toggle switch to the right of the steering wheel just doesn't cut it.

how about a post-it that says "park in gear, set brake"? :-) I suppose you could figure out how to set the switch when the key goes to position 0 - but that's usually when all the accessory circuits are de-engergized. Personally I'd be more concerned about the trick mechanism failing and engaging the parking brake when the car is running and driving.
Funny though, I'm from a generation that had as one of the first "driving lessons " we received was "1) Turn your steering wheel into the curb, 2) leaving the car in gear, turn off the ignition, 3) apply the parking brake, 4) slowly remove foot from brake."
The beauty was (is) that if you forget to do one, you're OK, if you forget to do two, you're still OK. Heck, you can even recover from forgetting three of the four.
Sometime in the long ago, a few people with common sense realized that you need to know how to stop a car BEFORE you need to know how to drive a car, and then we eventually forgot it.
