What to buy
really depends what you want to do. You can buy a bluetooth adaptor which talks to your smart phone to scan/clear obd P codes (emissions/general power train) for cheap, you can buy a $39 reader from Harbor Freight which does the same (I have their budget Centech model and it does all I need) . The more expensive the models can also read real time data as well. Then as you go to the more elite products you can scan for transmission and ABS codes, chassis codes (ie SRS codes) etc. There are also some readers which will read and interpret some of the Volvo proprietary codes as well like the iCarsoft 906. for about $100 you can get the iCarsoft or the BlueDriver (best Bluetooth option). Top of the food chain is the VIDA DICE, which is the factory tool dealers and big shops use but there may be a catch - what you see on Ebay are often clones with theftware and don't have the subscriptions to all the data modules the dealers have.
