What's the difference? (posted in April 2010)
On Friday a stupid woman driver (and I am a woman driver so this is not a necessarily sexist remark) hit me on the freeway. I was doing 60 and this numbskull was in the lane to my left and decided she would change into my lane irrespective of the fact that I was there. I did two 360s and a little more, hit a truck. My car is totalled but I walked away. Lots of new Volvo believers witnessed this event. So, we need another Volvo. We have a 965 sw as well. My question to all the enthusiasts out there as I just don't know is what is the basic difference between a 900s model and an 800s model Volvo? We like the Volvos out of the mid to late 1990s. My car that was hit was a 1994 940. So please educate me. I am to go look at an 840 or 850 this week.

The 900 series was Rear Wheel Drive (RWD). The 850 series was the first Front Wheel Drive (FWD). The 9's were also a little larger than the 8's. Engine sizes in the 900 series included a 6 cylinder while all the 850's had a 5 cylinder engine. I think the wheelbase was a little longer on the 9's also.
