Shimmy at highway speed!! (posted in March 2010)
2001 S60 I have a very bad shimmy in the steering wheel and though the whole car at highway speed when the egine is under torq. If I remove my foot from the accelerator it almost goes away. I have taken it to the dealer and suggested maybe front hubs but they siad they were ok. Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be. Checked rotors and they appear ok.
Rotation and balancing is the cheapest fix. Even if that's not the problem it won't hurt.
Then you're into a variety of potential causes if that doesn't fix the problem. Alignment? (another relatively cheap "fix"). CV joints? Engine mounts? Trans mounts? Warped rotors (unlikely, but possible)? Various suspension parts such as bushings worn, tie rod ends, etc. Those should be checked by someone who knows what he's doing.
