ORIGINAL: S70driver

Is this finished yet?

Pretty much, yes. Basically, the tips Evolve is sending are 3 3/4" overall height. I have the factory sport body kit, and this is too tall. I got the original 3 1/2" tip from Evolve, and this fits almost perfect. Only problem was the pipe coming out of the muffler had to be turned upward slightly to clear the opening (hole) in the bumper/valence.

When I drove the car home from the garage with no tip, since it was not possible to fit anyway ( had to wait a few days for the 3 1/2" to ship). This started to melt the inside lower lip of the opening. This actually turned out for the better, since I would of had to cut out the inside lower lip (of the exhaust hole) to clear the upward angle of the 3 1/2" tip. Everyone with me still?!

Anyway, I still need to trim the inside lower lip part slightly. There is almost no clearence, and will def be a prob when it gets warmer out.

Will post some pics sometime this week... (If I forgot anything, I been keeping a running post on that Evolve link)

Yeah I can see it touching the lower portion. You could use a smaller diamater tip.

That looks like a nice pipe. [sm=drooldude.gif]
I have been thinking about adding a down-pipe and cat-back as my next upgrade. I own a 2001 S60 T5 and would like to know what pipe would be a good match for my car that does not cost an arm and a leg. My buddies think that a 3" pipe is more than enough. The only other engine related mod that I plan on doing (besides my custom CAI) is some sort of computer upgrade. Any suggestions?

I would go with the 3" downpipe on yours. Its cheaper by $400 compared to the 3.5". I went with the 3.5" beacause they had problems getting the 3" in after I ordered it, so I got a deal on it. Its about the same power, Evlove just offers 3.5" because thats the max that will fit.

I plan on the Evolve ECU before summer gets here

you dont need any more than a 3 inch.

I come from the muslce car world and even over there three inch is pretty standard and makes a BIG impact. also remeber that downpipe/cat is more bang for buck than catback

3" is all our Volvo's need on the turbo versions. Any bigger and it is a loss.

Maybe I should clarify.... The turbo outlet, at least on mine, is 3.5" running into a 3.5" downpipe. Then after the cat it decreases to 3" for the rest of the exhaust.

Why the dislike for the 3.5"? It seems it would be better to have a larger diameter for the bends out of the turbo and into the cat.

if it was mandrel bent you will see very little difference in 3 v 3.5... if it was crushed bent, now there would be a HUGE difference.

I am not knocking the 3.5, bigger is usually better (remember you do want to maintain some backpressure) especially not knocking the bigger size on the downpipe, but the difference isnt going to be huge, a couple horses
