Car : 1991 Volvo 740 SW

Hello, I recently noticed the hose from the air filter going to the engine is cracked. I tried to look up the name but could not find the name of it. What is the hose called? What would be its purpose?

I went to Schucks Auto Supply but they said that they do not carry such hoses and were also not aware of where I could find one.

BTW: The car works but I assume it is taking in unclean air which might be the reason I get 17 mpg.

 

Any way to get a PIC?

That is called the heat rise tube. It sends hot air from the exhaust into the manifold to help the car warm up faster. If you live in a warm climate there is no need for it.
