Default Stupid question?

I just conditioned my seats and I put the conditioner on the shift lever and it turned chalky and white. Do I just keep putting it on until it goes away? Should I stop?

Thanks.

It depends on what you used. I'd say stop and try to use something to clean it off.

I put more on it and it got a little better, but it dries up and turns kinda white in about a day. It seems like I've rubbed off the coating or something. I also tried a little armour-all too and that just made it worse. I'll stop putting the conditioner on it, but what else should I try? Did I do something that can't be fixed?

It's kinda driving me crazy! If I put that stuff on every 30 minutes it would be ok...but I don't want to do that! Should I just use the leather cleaner (not conditioner) and start from scratch? It's just so dry that I figured the conditioner would help...doh!

Sounds like the conditioner is interacting with the oil and dirt on your shifter. Try cleaning the shifter with saddlesoap first wipe it off real good and then try the conditioner. I wouldnt use ArmorAll or anything like it on leather as it tends to coat the leather and actually dries it out. BJ

I thought saddle soap was bad as a cleaner? I've read some articles about it being very alkaline and actually damaging leather. Any one else heard this?? Also, the shifter is still the same...still dry and chalky.

So I cleaned it with saddle soap then put on lexol conditioner and still the same thing! Just as dry and chalky as it was before. I'm at a loss. Asked the dealer when I was in for service and he said to put lexol on it.

Is the leather just worn out? It seems like the more I clean it the more the actual leather starts to come off. When I cleaned it this time the rag was all black, the same color as the shifter...could that be the leather coming off? It's not smooth anymore, feels almost like suede...it has some texture.
