Default 1985 240 Wagon

Hi all! I am getting ready to purchase a 1983 240 Wagon in the next couple of hours, and found this site while I was looking for pictures and other info. I am getting the car for $270! The engine runs strong, and it started like a dream with no problems. The car is very clean, and the interior is in great shape. Other than dirty carpets, that is about it. The seats have no tears or cuts. The car has 160,000 miles on, which i consider to be very low for a car that is 27 years old. I drove it for about 10 miles and it did great...shifted smoothly and idled better than my 2004 model car. I am sure there will be a few things to fix here and there in the future, but at $270 I could part it out or sell it to the scrap yard and get my money back.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Anything I should get looked at right away. I checked the transmission fluid, and it is clean and smells fine, which makes me think it may have a leak, but no worries from me about that. What are the pros and cons of these cars? What little I did drive this car it was just a blast!

Default Update!!

So I just took it to the mechanic, and got a clean bill of health. I Even passed state inspection! I put new tires on her (her name is officially Bonnie) and changed her oil and filter. They also Found the transmission leak, and it is from the speedometer pinion seal, so I ordered one of those from a site online and will replace it when it gets in. That is the only leak she has!!!! I have put about 200 miles on it thus far and I am LOVING it!

I am planning on replacing the belts, hoses, getting a tune up and flushing the coolant system in the next 3- 4 months! I think I got one amazing car for $270.00!! This car has already caused me to fall in love with Volvo!

Any advice for a good maintenance routine is appreciated! Thanks!
