1986 Volvo 244 DL
Hi folks,
I have an '86 Volvo 244 DL. On the trunk there is a 240 DL but the folks at the parts stores tell me there isnt a 240 series for that year. The volvo has almost 189000 miles. The engine is a 2.3 liter engine. Over the past few months the car has been running worse and worse. Then one day a couple weeks ago it wouldnt start. I am getting no noise from either fuel pump when the key is turned on. I removed the fuel line which comes from the tank pump and there is no fuel. I was recently told that fuel pumps do not gradually fail. So I took the distributor cap off and the ignition rotor was fried. That, hopefully, should be the cause of the poor operating. The car does need a tune-up. I have been doing some reading on Volvo issues and the fuses and connections has come up several times. I have cleaned all the fuse ends and the clips they fit into. There is a main fuse next to the battery I have cleaned up as well.
Anyway, I removed the fuel pump relay and replaced it. Still nothing from the pumps but the parts store gave me a sweet deal on the relay so I have a feeling it is faulty or too cheap. I haven't looked into that yet. I removed the cover from the previous relay and it looks as if the mechanical side is all intact. I flipped it over and it looks as if there is some soldering to be done to repair it. Although it is hard to tell which one goes to which one. I have attached a picture. If someone has a diagram or a picture of a fully intact relay they would mind sharing, it would be greatly appreciated. I tried to take a pic of the relay cover but it wouldn't take due to flash and light conditions. The part number is 35 23 608. The previous relay does have the Volvo logo is stamped on it and 'Made in Germany.' There is also the number 89 8151. Thank you for your help and best regards.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Parts places don't know much about cars, especially older ones. Try to stick with places that specializes in Volvos or Euro parts.
Also, post your problem in the 240 section and you'll get the help you need. Fuel pumps do wear out and die slowly sometimes.
