I have a 1987 Volvo 240 wagon with a 5 speed, and about 180,000 miles.
It was in Kentucky until about 10 years ago, and then here in Maine
It had sat for a couple of years, and I bought it from the estate of its last owner.
It wouldn't start. I asked some local Volvo owners, and they said to replace the fuel pump relay.
I did this, and the car started well after that. But the fuel pump relay would get really hot, and conk out on an 80 degree August day.
Then I replaced the fuel tank sending unit, in-tank fuel pump, under-car fuel pump, and the under-car fuel filter.
All of these parts were really cruddy, but the fuel tank still looked fine inside.
I also plugged in a new fuel pump relay

The car starts every time now, and runs very well. However, the fuel pump relay gets a little hot after about 8 or 10 miles.
It's getting cold out now, but I should address this hot relay situation before I have to run the scorching Volvo heater.

I'd appreciate any tips that you may have. I have the big blue Bentley book, and the Haynes book.
