1990 740 GL Front Rotor Issues: The Brake Job From Hell.
Hey guys, I'm a first time volvo owner and I'm currently doing a simple tune up on my 740, ( oil, plugs, brakes, etc.) I'm having the toughest time with the front rotors though. Every dealership, parts store and shop I've talked to says there are 2 sizes, the 262mm (10.25in), or the 287 (11.25in).
So here's the thing, I have the Girling 2 piston calipers and the 262s would not fit onto the hub and while the 287s fit on, I couldn't get the caliper to match up with the bolt holes on the back, They were about a quarter inch off. I thought that maybe an inbetween rotor size could work so I then went and picked up a set of 280s (about a quarter of an inch smaller) and now there too thick! The thickness of the rotor on a 287 was about.84 mm and on the 280s they are 1.25.
At this point everyone has told me the same thing and I'm about to toss a match in this car and call it done because I've gone through every scenario and I can't find a way to make it work. Please tell me someone has had this problem and how they were able to fix it. Thanks guys
