1991 940SE relay blues
I have a 1991 940 SE Turbo and have been experiencing fuel pump/fuel injection relay (it has been called both) problems for the last three or four years. Meaning that I have replaced this relay once a year or so to get the car running again. The problem first appears as stalling in traffic. It always starts right back up but continues to stall and stutter until it is no longer driveable. I swap out the relay and the stalling and stuttering goes away for another year and the car runs perfectly. The relays I am using are original equipment relays, made in Hungary. I have discovered that not all relays are created equal and aftermarket relays do not cut the mustard. These relays should not be failing every year !!! It has finally dawned on my thick brain that there must be another cause for this failure. I discovered an excellent website (Dave's volvo relays) that deals exclusively with Volvo relays and an associated link that led to an in depth discussion on relay failures, bad sockets, faulty connections, etc.
I am posting today to reach out and discover anyone else who may have had this problem. Thank you in advance for any help.
