Welcome to the forum. I am not familiar with the 2000 S70 SE so I really can not help you from the persective of the actual car. But as with any Volvo's it's a very good idea to have the car inspected by a mechanic that very familiar with Volvos. It's money well spent and they will tell you things you want to know (or possibly not know) about the car. Good luck.

In general Saabs are more expensive to maintain than Volvo's. My inlaws have owned both for years and they are always putting more money into the Saab, and the Saab's don't seem to last near as long. They have had two Volvos and probably about four or five Saabs since themid 80's. They did have a couple Mercedes in there also though in place of Volvo's.

I like my volvo, but if it isnt broke, dont fix it. If money is an issue, i would go with what is working until you can get one and not worry about the extra expense, should they arise. Im just saying, probably best to be prudent this day and age, the economy going the way it is.
