Default 2000 S70 Problems

Although I bought this car two years ago certfied, I have to pay over $1500 for parts of a throttle and other parts that needed replacing. The engine kept stalling. Has anyone else had this issue?

There are a myriad of postings on this forum re: electronic throttle body. However...................just recently, Volvo indicated to the U.S. gov't that they would honor the cost of replacing the unit and reimburse those who have already paid for a replacement. Speak to your dealer or refer yourself to July/August edition of Rolling.

I'm having the same problems with my 2000 S70. I understand this is a recurring problem with post-1999 S70's. Volvo in Canada has quoted me CAD$800, for a new throttle body, with 2 to 3 hours labor to re-code the software.

I understand a comany in the UK is able to fix the problem - see below. I don't know if any one in NAmerica does the same.

"Volvo post 1999 Marelli electronic throttle system (also known as ETS, or throttle body).
Symptoms: intermittently really rough idle, no power, car can do 20 mph only. Will correct with key off for a while, but leave engine management light on and re-occurs soon
Most Volvo's post 1999 have Marelli throttle actuator. This is bringing the engine management light on and eventually putting car in limp home mode.
BBA can do an own unit rebuild, with all work coming with a 2 year warranty. If you purchase a new replacement, you will also have to pay to have it coded to your vehicle at the dealer. An own unit rebuild obviously removes this cost.
Upon winning this item and payment of return carriage, we will arrange collection of the unit. Once the repair has succesfully been carried out it will be despatched straight back. Turn around is 2-3 days.
If you are purchasing from non-UK mainland(e.g. Ireland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight)or Internationally, please contact us before bidding on (++44)(0)1634 230055, or ebay@bba-reman.com to discuss shipping "

Please review the information under the c70 heading.............date: 8-2-05...............heading: "poor running". Perhaps this will answer the questions you have re: a rebuilt throttle. Quite frankly, I do not understand how this company rebuilds these throttles and defeats the dealer computer "re-set". I would ask them exactly what parts are rebuilt/exchanged and just how they can bypass the computer re-set.

would this be a problem with 99's as well? as far as the ETS goes? we are new owners of a S70, and have sinceleft the car on for 2 hours to reset the radio, and the ETS goes on and off, and the cruise doesnt work.
