2020 XC90 water leaking
My XC90 suddenly started having drip marks from the top of the glovebox, as if something was overflowing out the glovebox but nothing in the glovebox is wet. I would wipe off the spot but it keeps coming back and then I noticed the entire passenger side floor is soaked! Dealership has no explanation. I’m also having electrical system issues which were resolved with a software update but this random leak makes no sense. They said my “drains were clear” and were unable to determine the leak. I only have 20,000 miles on the vehicle and take good care of it but now it’s starting to smell musty. This is crazy for a 65000 SUV. Random leaks?
depends on which drains were checked as clear... there's a few places to check out 1) sun roofs have drains that on some cars go down the A pillar and drain down the bottom 2) windshield seams can leak (rare on a new car, this is usually caused by a poor job installing replacement glass 3) there's grommets and plugs in the firewall to allow hoses/wiring to go through that may be out of place and 4) the AC evaporator creates condensation that is supposed to drain out...
I'd look into the AC evaporator first by doing a few tests. Can you bear driving the car without AC for a week or so to see if the musty smell goes away and there's no random water staining? My outside the box theory is there is water accumulating at the bottom of the evaporator and the fan/airflow is whipping some up into the vents which can drip in odd places. That same moisture is staying on the evaporator and inside the vent tubing allowing mildew to form (Fridgi Fresh and other AC evaporator cleaners kill the mildew).
The dealer should be able to check the evaporator drains etc, and you may want to swap in a fresh cabin air filter.
Good luck and post up how you make out.
