Buying a new volvo!
I'm excited/proud to announce that I'm purchasing my first volvo!
I test drove a 2001 s60 t5 last night, and loved it so much I shook hands with the owner.
I just need some re-assurance about the deal I'm about to make.
120,000km
absolutely MINT condition he's the original owner
black/black
manual
He was asking 10,500 and I negotiated down to $9800..
What do you guys think?
~ feedback much appreciated!

Hey iPOD,
I'm a new Volvo user as well, so I can't really answer this question from a car standpoint, but from a financial standpoint I think I can add some color to the situation.
The quote I pulled from Edmunds for a black 2001 s60 t5 with all the fixings and 120k miles was $7,223. All the upgrades add about $1k to that, so if the one your looking at lacks that, figure around $6.2k for the car.
You might be overpaying. How many people in this economy have the money to shell out $9k for a 9 year old car w/ 120k miles? I think you could get him to come down even more, but again, maybe there's something special about these cars I'm missing. Hope this helps.

Honestly, the price of the car is dictated really by how clean it is, how great it was serviced and finally HOW BAD U WAT IT! The price isn't that far off being private party. Wholesale I would say $,4500-$6K, Retail I would say high $7's to $10k. The S60's right now at auction have been going for higher money. I wholesale on the side and have seen bidding wars since they are desirable cars and ofter go for a little bit more. KBB, NADA guide and blackbook are just a rule of standard, but blackbook is what dealers go by! If it's that nice and that clean I would offer $8,500-$9,500.. Ultimately you will decide how bad you want the car. I def. don't mind paying a little more if it's that clean and that well taken care of car..

Also, is it 120,000 km OR 120,000 miles.
120,000 km is only 74,500 miles.
its 120,000 km with is only 74,500 miles
and I do really like the car, I'm not just saying this but its in MINT MINT condition both inside and out. I took it on a test drive and it seems really smooth/solid.
the guy is original owner kept it VERY well did some suspension work front/rear.. has pretty new tires on it and all options minus navigation.
I'm really excited to pick it up monday!
thanks guys

if you really think I'm spending too much, I'll call the guy up and tell him its too much.. he didn't wanna budge on the price much at all, was a stiffler
I need a car to travel 200km (total) every day to work and back.. is the S60 not a good choice for that?

Honestly I would only consider paying that for a Certified model. Try to talk him down. Worst that can happen is he says no and you pay regular price. I believe the S60 is a good commuter car, but I have no experience with them.
Everyone has an opinion, just like everyone has a "friend"! You know what I mean?? I sold my 2 Hondas and bought my Volvo 850 I always wanted! I heard they were "crap", "not reliable" and "expensive as S#h&t to fix"....... but at the end of the day I still wanted the car I fell in love with one day at a car meet! It also took me 3 years to find the right 850 since a lot of them were ragged out and beat up from the sun! I was willing to go a little higher in price for the right car if it was taken care of.... What you need to do is ask what is a S60 worth to you. What's the max price you want to spend. Also figure out what options you are willing to do without or want for that price. At the end of the day you will know which Volvo is yours and sometimes you might pay a little more for that car, but by god you will smile all the way home driving that Swede! The S60 is a great car! I would rather have that than a bug ridden S80. I think if treated right, that S60 will give you many more miles. Just make sure you go over the service history and take it for a lenghty drive. We can steer you left and right with prices,etc... but at the end of the day it will be your choice. Keep us updated on your choice..If you end up getting it and driving home, let us know how big your grin was when you drove home. It's ok to admit it, we all drove our Volvo home from somewhere and on the first one we SMILED.

Anyways, since you already have the car, make sure to follow scheduled maintenance as per the owner's manual (I do mine a bit more frequently than is recommended). Be willing to spend extra money on OEM parts. Try to use full synthetic engine oil. Make sure to keep track of timing belt replacement intervals.
Enjoy your ride
