Default Daytime Running Lights

I just purchased a 2018 XC60, I understand that the so called Thor's hammer lights are the daytime running lights which is fine, however, I'm used to using the automatic lights on but this also turns the tail lights on. I was told by going in the center screen I'm able to disable the rear lights, but when I do that the hammer lights also turn off which means I no longer have daytime running lights. So what is the purpose of having the automatic lights to come one if they don't work as they should. Does anyone know if there's a way to have the **** on the automatic lights and run with the DRL on (front only) during the day. On a sunny day you can't see the tail lights at all so why keep them on.
