Greetings All
I am Mike from North NJ, right next to NYC, and I recently picked up my first Volvo as my new daily driver. I got an amazing deal on the car knowing that it needed some work and attention, which I will be able to accomplish on my own, so I hope my new 850 Wagon turns out to be a reliable car. It is hardly the car I ever dreamed of owning, but it is a practical choice for me because of it's size and cargo capabilities (I have a pet moose masquerading as a dog). I worked for Volvo in parts right when the 850s were introduced, so I have some knowledge of the car, but I'm sure the real world life with one will be much different than parts on a computer screen. I spent a few days cleaning up the "new" car after rescuing it from it's previous owner that had been ignoring it, which is a shame, because someone previously cared for this car, so I hope to return it to it's former state. Hopefully this forum will be a good source of info for DIY type people like me. Thanks

Thank you all for the welcome
The car did clean up nicely after just basic work, and I believe it was garage kept at some point in it's life, because it was just way too clean to be weather exposed for 16 years. The guy I bought it from gave it to his son as a college car years ago, and it was ignored because you could tell he was not mechanically inclined (quicky lube filters, equivalent of an oak tree in the interior, blown fog light bulbs, etc...). I am doing the PCV breather box assembly replacement this weekend because of internal smoke, but it has a Volvo timing belt replacement sticker on the cover, and the head is spotless internally, so somebody cared at some point (the kids parents maybe, wow knows). I'll get it back in decent shape as a reliable car again. I'm kind of OCD about well kept cars, this is what I sold recently before I got the Volvo...
