Hello! 1999 V70XC
Hello all from north east Maryland. About 2 years ago we bought a non-running but beautiful 1999 V70 XC automatic that's been patiently waiting it's turn for attention. The car has had some modifications to make it look like an R and has some Do88 intake piping and what looks like an aftermarket boost controller on it, the previous owner said his wife was driving it and it just stopped, and it had a used transmission installed at some point.
Fast forward to couple of weeks ago and I've finally had time to start looking it. We've had Saabs for years and I've done quite a bit of tuning and modifications, and it's been fun learning about this other Swedish brand.
So far I know that the engine is seized on this V70XC, the vac line to the wastegate was broken off, there's oil leaking out of everywhere, and one thing I've learned right away is that putting the turbo against the firewall makes things a lot more difficult to work on lol.
I've been doing my best to try to sort through more than 2 decades of discussions across various forums, and following dead links on maintaining and tuning these cars etc., and after going through the pain of pulling the turbo and starting to take the head off, I'm thinking about dropping the subframe and pulling the engine/trans because it seems like these aren't really designed to do major maintenance in place.
Anyway, hello! I guess I'll probably start a thread over in the V70XC forum for some questions that I can't find answers to so far like, recommended shops that may still be reliably rebuilding or beefing up these transmissions if there are any, and any options for self tuning on the 1999's (I've found VA5T tuning, but that looks like only up to 1998).
