Default Hello from Menlo Park, CA

Hello Volvo enthusiasts. Just saw this forum and it's fortuitous since I'm looking for a used Volvo and can use some advice. I used to have a 98 S70 that I liked a lot. Unfortunately, I sold it because I needed to move. I'd like to get an S70 again or perhaps an S60. I looked on the forum and I see that 98 was a good year for the S70. 2002 was not such a good year for the S60. A couple of questions... What are the good years for the S60? Also, with the higher mileage cars (over 100K), what sort of maintenance should I expect? For instance, timing belt at 110K. I know it would be hard to predict, but is there something like the water pump usually goes at... O2 sensor at ... You will have problems with... All this weighs into my decision process for how used a Volvo I should consider buying. All opinions are welcome.

If I were looking for a S60 I'd get one 2004 and newer.

Water pumps are usually replaced with the timing belt at 105k. Suspension usually starts failing at about 140,000. Always use Volvo, Mann or equivalent oil filters.

Default Would like more info on S60

How long would you say a properly maintained S60 should last? I saw one with 184,000 for sale. Would this be a bucket of worms?

From my research, it looks like Volvo didn't get the S60 right till 2006. 2003 and 2004 were prone to engine problems. Check out this reliability chart on MSN autos. 2002 Volvo S60 Reliability - MSN Autos

S60 2006 will be better than 2004 or 2003
