High Everyone??!!?
Hi all,
I am not a new Volvo owner, but I am new to the Volvo forums. In 2001, my wife and I bought our first Volvo. It is a 2001 S40. I loved the car so much that when I finally let my 1986 Chevrolet Caprice go last month, I got another Volvo. I purchased a 2001 S60 T5. Not that it isn't fast enough, but I am already thinking of modding it. I have heard that by adding a K&N intake and filter along with an Upsolute chip, I can add nearly 50 hp and over 55 ft lbs of torque. This seems like an unreal amount of power for under $700 worth of mods. Does anyone have experience with either of these modifications? Is the Upsolute chip safe for my engine?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out,
Swish

I would say that 50hp is unrealistic for starters. Not to say it can't be done, but I wouldn't expect those results on a stock vehicle. So far as the Upsolete chip, it's hard to tell. I've had one of the worst experiences you can have on behalf of just a chip, so I'm not a good person to ask.
Thanks for the prompt reply. What kind of chip did you get and what kind of issues did you have? I am completely new to the moddin' world and will take any suggestions. I don't want to break the bank. Even more...I don't want to break my car. [sm=smiley5.gif]

Upsolute chip reprogram. So far no problems just enjoyment. Before it is like having the car locked down and now it is free. I guess I had hoped for more doubt I would be satified until I hit 300 hp.
I had a 96 Cobra with a new Vortech S-Trim Supercharger. At the time, there were no ignition products available for that car to retard/advance ignition, etc. So, the kit came with a coupon for a free Hypertech chip that was necessary to adjust fuel/spark for the supercharger. Unfortunately, the "super-brains" at Hypertech made my chip run my car almost 40% too rich ALL THE TIME. My catalytic converters clogged with fuel, and caused a rich exhaust "detonation" inside the drivers side cylinder head, when the spark plugs/compression ignited the gases in the exhaust. So, 6400 dollars later, I had a brand new engine in an 8 month old car. Hypertech told me to go pound sand. I'm a little cynical now about chips.
