Default Interconnected ECM

Hey guys,
I've searched around and can't seem to find the right thread, please direct me there if you know where I can find it.

My 2003 V70 Manual, dim shut down as I was on my way to a safety. When I spoke with the Volvo mechanic about the option of swapping one in from my parts V70 he told me I cant because it communicates with the ECM and needs to me replaced with a brand new one($1200). I found a place in Mississauga ON Canada that will rebuild mine($500). Since I have the parts car I'd like to try using it if I can.

My inquiry is... what if I replace the DIM AND the ECM from the parts car ( we'll call it car B)? will it make car A think that it is Car B? or is there more sensors and computers that are "imprinted" with car A's ECM? perhaps the airbag module? anything else? any thoughts?
The reason I don't want to just start swapping and trying is the Volvo tech said if I swap the DIM and ECM "I could cause other stuff to fry"
Any help is good help. Thanks
