Hello all.
I just joined the forum because I just bought my daughter a 850 GLT for her first car. It's black and looks great. I am still going through everything on it, and I'll have questions I am sure.
I live near Cincinnati, but am originally from Maine. My father was a big fan of Volvos and owned a repair shop there specializing in foreign cars, especially Volvos. My brother owns the shop, now.
I grew up driving 140's but got away from Volvos until now. I own 3 other cars. A Mercedes ML320, a BMW 3 series, and a VW Jetta. I work on all of them and belong to forums for each of those brands.
I have done a bit of lurking and searching so far. I like what I see on this forum... good technical advice and no bs.
BTW... my name is Dave.

Hahahaha, not to be confused with the University of Miami here in Florida! Whenever I make it to Castine, my friends take their sail boat out on the water! Beautiful... If I get tired of Fla., Im taking my Buell and my Volvo to Maine!

Welcome to the forum. Been to ME a few times but never tried out lobster there.
The 1993 model is unique in that it requires different parts as compared to later models. Also, the timing belt replacement interval is every 50,000 miles/5 years. If the 850 did not come with a service record and you are not sure when it was done the last time, I would have it done NOW.
I would also replace the idler pulley, tensioner pulley & hydraulic tensioner. Water pump may be left alone unless leaking. Make sure to go with OEM parts.

Good luck,
