I definitely posted this in the general chat before realizing there was a New Members Area, so... apologies if you are reading this for a second time. My name is Alex! I'm 27 and just bought a 1986 740 GLE. I've only had the car for about a week and I am already so in love with it. I am now the SECOND owner of it. The previous -a married couple now in their mid 80s- took meticulous care of it, and within the past 35 years have managed to only put 135k miles on it. I can only assume that they used it to go to church on Sunday's or the beach once a week. And for being a Maine vehicle, there is also virtually no rust... how lucky am I ?! Along with the low mileage, great frame and body condition, I also have the past 35 years of service records to go along with it. (thanks Shirley and George!) There are a couple things in terms of TLC that need to be done in order to have it looking like it just rolled off the lot, but otherwise it runs and drives great. I feel like I'm driving a sofa, and the smell of the interior transports me back to my Grandfather's old crown vic from when I was about 5 years old. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions about repairs/upgrades/general knowledge in the future, but just wanted to say hello and share some pics!
Welcome and congrats on your purchase, Alex! A lot of good info here regarding mods in case you are thinking of doing any. Check out some of the garages and you may get some ideas. May you receive years upon years of faithful service from your GLE!
