Hello to all. New to the forum and stumbled upon it looking for an answer in regards to my 2005 S60 2.5 FWD. Feels like I had my tranny linkage let go last night....the car is in P, but the shifter moves freely with no resistance. Had to leave it in parking lot at work, but better there than happening on the way home I guess?

Looking forward to searching through and seeing what makes other Volvo owners tick. If any thoughts about my issue, any info would be appreciated, but I've searched and only come across an issue with an older 940 I think.

Eitherway, glad to be here and let the "Foruming" begin.

Regards,
Adrian

Welcome to the forum.

It definitely sounds like something came loose on the car. Was the car fine when you drop to work in the morning?

Thanks guys...it was fine when I drove it in. We pulled it apart and looks like I'll need a new(ish) shifter assembly.....the black plastic housing that surrounds the shifter, the cables and solenoids, etc. Looks like the actual base where the shifter connects to the cables has broken clean through. Strange, but true.

I bought the car 2 months ago and a few instances where the shifter would buck going into D..I had to wiggle it a bit. Spoke to my technicians and they said it could be a "software upgrade" and to tell them if it got worse.

So I have a sneaky feeling it was well on it's way to breaking through long before I ever bought it....just got lucky I guess? Found a used assembly that I'm picking up later today...fingers crossed.
