Default New Volvo Owner

Hello all!

I'm a new owner of a 1999 Volvo S70. My dad has driven it for the longest time until the electronics went hay wire, but I am paying for it to get fixed now and dad is giving me the car. Yay! ^_^ I have driven the car a good bit before and I really enjoy it, however being a teenager and a car fanatic I have to make it cooler and faster! haha

Anyways I am wondering what kind of car the S70 is when it comes to performance mods. Is it even worth messing with or should I save my money for something better down the road? Also what is a good website for buying aftermarket parts for Volvos (appearance and performance.)

Alrighty final question! If I do decide to start working on the performance of the car where would be the best place to start? I am an aggressive driver with a lead foot lol and I always push vehicles pretty hard. Would a better intake and intercooler help the engine with the hard load I put on it? Well that's it for now thanks for your time everyone!

What kind of S70 is it? Base, GLT, or T5? If it's a base model, unfortunately where you are at performance wise now is about as good as it gets. They're good cars to mod, performance and appearance wise, it all depends what your budget is. And a good place to start is ipdusa.com.

Welcome. The S70 forum will probably give you some performance upgrade ideas. Check it out.

I believe it is a base model gilber, haven't seen anything that said Turbo anywhere on it, but I will look again. If it is base, will the base engine support a small turbo and some other performance mods or is it just to weak? Thanks for the replies guys!

an NA motor can support a turbo, but your car isn't set up for a turbo, no intercooler, etc. And to make an NA motor work with a turbo you have to tap into the block for oil lines to and from the turbo. And na motors are only able to handle up to 10 PSI. If it's an NA, i would go with cosmetic upgrades. You can throw on an exhaust, but the only real difference it's going to make is what the car sounds like.

That's what I would do. If you drive this for a while, save up and get a 98 S70 T5, it will be worlds better and so much more fun to drive. Once you go turbo, you don't go back. And once that happens, the only thing you can think about is how to get a bigger turbo in your car.
