Default Newbie in New Zealand

Hi there everyone

I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Volvo S60 japanese import.

Has any one got any advise for a first time Volvo owner.?

Being a Jap import unfortuantely all the error displays are in Japanese and I was wondering if there is any translations for these messages, as I have a couple up already, and is there any way to permanently convert the display to English

Thanks
Grant

Hi Grant,

Welcome to the forum, and I just PMed you back this morning or last night (mid-age moment).

Asfor being a 1st time Volvo owner, please note that Volvos, as well as other Euro makes, seem to have poorly designed electrical/electronic systems design, so don't be surprised to see Check Engine Light or ABS/TRAC warnings, they are often triggered by negligible reasons. Also, when you repair a problem, ALWAYS stick to the OEM parts.

I'm sorry that you had to buy a J@p import. I am currently stuck in Japan and those J@ps are....never mind.

As I wrote in the PM, I believe the ECU has a few different languages programmed (I could be wrong), such as English, Swedish, German and Japanese. If there is such function, other members would be able to tell you better solutions than I possibly could. Or, take pics of the messages and I'll translate them for you, at no charge.

Recalls:
http://www.autobuyguide.com/2001/12-...lls/index.html

These recalls are for the U.S market models, but they may also apply to J@p market versions, so check with local dealers or NZ's Dept. of Transport.

Best of luck to you,

JPN
