Default No fuel delivery at start until gas tank opened

Long-time follower, first-time poster.

2000 V70 wagon, 1st generation base model, non-turbo. (Also have a 2005 V70 wagon with Turbo. Have owned 240 and 740 wagons. We LOVE our wagons!)

Occasionally (!), gas will not flow when starting until the gas cap is removed and the flapper valve opened.

Based on that, it SEEMS to be a venting/pressure issue in the tank and fuel lines.

Fuel pressure is normally great and pumps are functioning.

Problem does not appear to follow any pattern - weather, usage, fuel level, location, ley lines, planetary positions, et cetera.

Any experience with this type of misbehavior?

Thanks very much!

Have you checked rest fuel pressure? As in a bad check valve?

Well, looks like it's another case of the key transponder issue.
Works with the key in one direction but not the other. Oy!
