Hey guys, just dropping in to say whats up. I am a huge DSM (diamond star motors aka Eagle talon, Mistu Eclipse, Plymouth Laser) fan. I currently own a very clean 1991 Eagle talon TSI AWD 5spd that has bested a 12.1 at 113mph (on a little 16g)at Summit Racing Motorsports Park in Norwalk Ohio.
I am currently in the market for a safe, fun, reliable, and comfortable car for my fiance (who owns a 1995 eagle talon as a toy.) The first thing thatcame to mind when I thought of what we wantedwas a Volvo of some sort. We are currently very interested in a 2000 V70-R and and possilby a S70 T5 (unsure of year). Anyway I hope to get one soon and I should be trolling these forums every day looking for more info. Feel free to offer me any advise as the more I learn the less ignorant of a buyer I become .
Thanks,
TJ

Welcome to the forum, you're lucky to be shopping for a Volvo.
We have a member who's into the three lozenges, and he post questions on his Mitsubishi once a while, which I find quite interesting.
Let us know what you end up buying. In the world of Volvo, "R" models are usually the best.
Cheers,
JPN

Well it looks like the v70r is a little out of our price range (getting married and looking to become first time home buyers) so we are pretty dead set on a s70 t4 or maybe a c70 hpt if we can find one. There seems to be none around my part of Michigan. I test drovea s70 t5 the other day and loved it, but I walked when I realized that it had been hit and not repaired properly.
How hard would it be to make a GLT (gay little turbo) model to have the same hp as a T5? I know that the 13g isn't really much of a turbo (have one on my auto eclipse) but where does one run out of breath on these larger motors? If it is a boost controller away (safely, I don't need to push the turbo past its efficiency and have a knock happy motor), I would consider finding an AWD GLT model and living with that.

Back from the dead Since I made this thread, we took advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program and traded in a $1200 car for a brand new MINI Cooper S. Too bad for me, the wife gets to drive that everyday and I was stuck with my rusty 1986 BMW 325es. It was depressing to drive, didn't have a working blower motor, no power steering, loud exhaust, etc.. so I searched for a new vehicle. Well after a year of looking on and off at S70s, I finally picked one up.
Its a 1998 T5 model with an automatic trans. Silver with black/dark grey interior. The mileage is a litte over 164k but it rides very well. Just a few small issues with the dash making noise, the lower dash panel on the passenger side hanging down, minor rust spot, and the door panel cards are peeling. Here it is after its first wash, claybar, polish, and wax.
