You can find euro made after market compressors at FCP Euro and EEuroparts for about 250 and Genuine Volvo (#8603374) for about $350. With that said, if you have an issue with the AC clutch, you can replace that alone for about $100 (if you can access the clutch like on the 850s you can repair without opening the system). The big problem if you need to open the system that you may be forced to convert to R-134 from R-12. R-134 is a smaller molecule so conversions typically include replacing all the O rings, a new receiver/drier and professional evacuation of the old R-12 (assuming it hasn't all leaked out already).
