Default oil in expansion Tank

i own a Volvo S80 D5 185bhp 2008 and such a smooth car , drives very well till two months ago when it started having an uneven idle, but still it moved fine , then one day going to the grocery store parked it and when coming out i noticed black fluid under the car , i was shocked as i thot my samp had cracked, so i checked around and inside the hood and saw nothing wrong under the engine and then checked that oil was coming out of the coolant expansion tank, i truely do not unerstand how oil can get in there as i did not get any warning as to any form of high temp , mechanic looks at it and he thinks the head is cooked , i am just lost for words as to y the head will go yet i keep my car fully serviced with good oil and coolant is always to its standard . can anyone please tell me what i need to do to get this car back on the road, all pipes and radiator is now just full of oil sludge

please help

oil in the coolant is a sign of a head gasket failure.
