Old but New
This is normally proper etiquette, so:
Hello. I'm new here and new to actually owning a Volvo. So new, in fact, that I don't actually own one yet. I'm in the process of buying a 2016 First Edition XC90 T6, but now that I have read more about it on here and one other large forum, I am truly afraid. "Don't own out of warranty" seems to be a catch phrase around here, and obviously, a warranty this one does not have. It seemed like a really good deal. $25k, 77000 miles, every conceivable option, but I guess now I know why (though they still sell for a lot more at Carvana/Carmax/Volvo/etc.). This is being sold by a non-Volvo dealer. It had 3 previous owners.
I was going to get the Volvo extended platinum warranty, but it's $10k for four years with a $100 deductible. No response yet as to whether or not the Gold or Powertrain are really adequate or worth it.
So, that's the pertinent part of my story.

Not sure who's saying don't buy a volvo out of warranty... What you are betting by buying an extended warranty that you will have over 10K worth of unscheduled repairs in the next 4 years. If you really think that's what it will cost to maintain an XC90, its time to shop for a Toyota Highlander. If you are paying 25K for the XC90 plus 10K for a warranty - then you are really shopping for a 35K car. For that amount you can get a CPO 2018 XC90 with less than 50K miles. As to the 2016, it seems reasonably priced at 25K, so I wouldn't rule that out (minus the warranty) - but first you should get the full car-fax, look for a full maintenance history (ie dealer maintained on schedule etc) and have a professional inspection done before you buy (typically 100-200 bucks)
