Picked up my "new" 2001 V70 T5
Just purchased and picked up the 2001 V70 T5 I’ve been looking at from a private party. The car has been very well maintained with all service records and it looks and runs great. I’ve never owned a Volvo before and so far I am very impressed by the car. The 2.3L Turbo pulls very strong and the car has a very high quality feel and look to it with many well thought out features. From the service records though it hasn’t been a trouble free car. There was the well documented problem with the Asin Warner 55-50 transmission, with shifting problems starting at ~30K miles and the transmission was finally replaced in 2007 at 70K miles (for over $4K). It had a leaky radiator, which was replaced, front end control arm bushings replaced, a Turbo oil return line leak and some issues with the AC. Everything else in the service records look like routine maintenance. Right now, with 84K miles on it I haven’t found any major problems with the car. Since I plan on doing the maintenance and repair work myself I’d like to know what areas of the car to look at carefully for wear or other problems. I know the timing belt should be replaced and I’ll be doing this shortly. I’ve also been reading about valve body issues with the AW55-50 and I’m hoping the replacement transmission has been updated and is more reliable then the 2001/early 2002 versions.
Looking forward to owning and driving this car for a long time
