I'm new. I came to this site to learn all I can about Volvos. Looking for a lot of advice, guidance and direction to expand my interest. My parents had a 1957 Volvo, and it was awesome. Right now, I'm going to bench rebuild a transaxle from an 1996 850 with the 2.3L BH234T. Never done one before, so it should be interesting. I know that most people would say, "Don't bother," or "just get a used transmission," but I can't learn from avoiding challenges. If it doesn't work out, I paid almost nothing for the transmission. Now, I just need to find a reasonably-priced rebuild kit. Let me know if you know of best sources for rebuild kits.

Start by decoding the transmission's build plate - should be an Aisin 50-42LE or similar model. Once you see that, you should be able to google around or search eBay for parts and kits.

I have not rebuilt a volvo, so I don't have a parts source, but I would say enjoy yourself with it and I wish you good luck. There is/was a good guy on youtube on these.
